Back to humans…at least for now…

I just started four more small paintings.  I’ll be sharing the other three in future posts.  The first one  is a portrait  of my sister Harmony.  When I saw this picture of her, it was intriguing to me. I took this photo a few months ago, but I must have looked over it, until last week.

After I started I decided that it won’t fit in with the paintings I did of the baby birds.  I want my October exhibit at CityArt gallery to be cohesive.  I’m still thinking of a concept for the show.  Right now it’s looking like the concept will be about awakenings, and the beginning of life.

When I first started this painting, I didn’t paint the canvas with a wash in a mid-tone color, so it was white.  When I did the black and white layer, it was quite challenging to get a good idea of the true values (lights and darks) in the image.  I did the same thing on another painting, and I don’t think I’ll be doing it again.  The mid-tone really helps!

And NO, I’m not finished!

yeah, I could tell the black and white option difficulty….mid-tones are the way to go…spoken like a true, though well-meaning, ignoramous 🙂 …. I like Harmy’s neck.
