A Nursery for Baby Martin

At the beginning of August I announced that Eric and I are expecting a baby in February.  It’s hard to believe, but I’m already halfway through the pregnancy!  The scary part is that I haven’t even started working on the nursery yet.  All I have is some ideas.  I made a sort of mood board with a couple of general ideas for colors, theme, and basic furniture items.

Eric and I decided not to find out whether our baby is a boy or a girl until the big day, so I am trying to make the nursery as gender neutral as possible.  The theme is winter and I have yet to decide if this will be a weird theme to have all year round, but I guess we’ll see.  I’m really stuck on the idea.

The part I am most excited about is the birch tree mural. I was going to buy decals, but saw this and like it way better.  I’ve never painted a mural before, so I am looking forward to trying something new.  I’m not totally attached to any of the items except for the prints (by Elly MacKay on her Etsy shop Theater Clouds) and the wall mural.  Everything else is subject to change. Especially the curtains.  I just chose them because I don’t know what I want yet, and I already have ones like this.

And here is the room.  I chose the tiniest room because, well, babies are tiny.  And it’s right across the hall from mine and Eric’s room.  I’ll try to get some better pictures of the room when I get ready to paint the mural.  I’ll keep you updated on my progress!

Now this is a little off topic, but I teach 2nd grade Sunday school, and I never get tired of things that my students say.  Yesterday we were singing a song that required a lot of jumping around, and one of the boys came over and said, “Don’t jump, you’re pregnant!” Then later that day he asked why my stomach keeps getting bigger.  Maybe he thinks babies stay the same size in the womb?  A couple of weeks ago a girl interrogated me about my personal history.  She asked if I was married (yes), then how old I am (25), then how old I was when I got married.  When I told her I was 20 when I got married, she said “That’s young!”  I said “Yes, it is.”  I love how honest kids are.  It’s a different kind of honesty than adults have.  Kids will tell you what they think, but they won’t necessarily judge you for it.  I love that.
